Matthew Ellis (MSc BSc PGA) is a leading Sport Psychology Consultant, an advanced member of the PGA, a former University Lecturer (Sport Psychology & Coaching) and an international level golfer having represented Wales and Great Britain and an amateur and professional.

His vast experience in golf is now in great demand by both coaches and players who want an integrated approach to golf coaching and performance.

Matthew is involved across the UK in delivering performance coaching with an emphasis on improving mental performance.
He works in tandem with technical coaches to deliver a holistic approach to golf for players of all levels, ages and abilities.

Coach Education

Matthew is involved in the delivery of sport psychology module within the PGA coach training programme. Matthew tutors young trainee professionals within the foundation degree programme held at the PGA headquarters in the Belfry.

In addition, Matthew delivers coach education programmes throughout England to those coaches who are involved within England Golf Partnership. These workshops are designed to help coaches integrate Sport Psychology techniques into their coaching practice and have been well received by the experienced delegate coaches. Current clients include Cornwall and Devon, Shropshire and Hereford, Wiltshire and finally Staffordshire.

Higher Education

Matthew is former programme leader for Coaching at Myerscough College and was responsible for the development and design of modules towards their popular foundation degree in golf coaching. In addition, Matthew has also lectured at Glyndwr University in the areas of Sports Psychology and Sports Coaching.

Mental Performance Coaching

  • Lead performance coach for the Golf Union of Wales for Elite and developmental squads
  • Regional specialist (sport psychology) for the English Golf Union (North West Squad)
  • Mental performance coach for AASE Squads of Myerscough Collage, Hartpury College and The Golf College in Sussex
  • Matthew also works with recreational golfers and professional golfers of several satellite tours and Challenge Tour.
